Amsterdam Oost

Hello Amsterdam Oost

'Up-and-coming' doesn't come close to doing Amsterdam Oost (East) justice. The neighborhood's cool, authentic character is no work-in-progress – it's firmly established. You just feel like there's a bit more room in Amsterdam-Oost: the streets seem wider, the museums quieter, the crowds thinner. More spacious, yes, but Oost also happens to be one of the most lively neighborhoods in the city. Amsterdammers love the concept stores on the Javastraat, the market stalls on the Dappermarkt, the Indonesian cuisine, and the pop-up restaurants. The bars and clubs are some of the trendiest and most popular in the city, too, while the neighborhood is also blessed with some of Amsterdam's most pleasant green spaces, including Oosterpark and Flevopark. Amsterdam is home to a thriving craft beer scene and leading the way is Brouwerij 't IJ; enjoy a few drinks here beneath the brewery's impressive windmill before catching the tram into the city center to continue the revelry.

7 cliché activities in Amsterdam you will actually enjoy

Amsterdam is one of those cities that is drenched in clichés. I’ve overheard people saying that they thought Amsterdam was itself a country (Holland clearly isn’t interesting enough to benefit from word of mouth publicity), that the Dutch  all wear wooden shoes (imagine the pain!), that Amsterdam is  covered in tulips, and that literally everyone   smokes weed. All. Day. Long. I’m not here to smash your dreams into a thousand tiny pieces, but that’s plain bullcheese. On the other hand, some Amsterdam clichés are true and are definitely worth giving a try. They aren’t clichés for nothing, am I right?
