Hello The Annex / Yorkville
Head north along University Avenue from the heart of the Downtown Core and, after strolling through the University of Toronto's green, historic campus, you'll hit Bloor Street West and the adjoining neighborhoods of Yorkville and The Annex. Bloor runs along the southern border of both, with Yorkville's stretch home to some of the most luxurious shopping opportunities in Toronto. If you do hit the so-called 'Mink Mile' and happen to splash out on a pair of shoes, check out the Bata Shoe Museum in The Annex afterward to see how they measure up. Aside from upscale shopping, Yorkville is an affluent, largely residential neighborhood, complete with courtyards and alleyways, Victorian houses, and quiet, hip cafes and restaurants. The Annex is its livelier, more eclectic next-door neighbor, complete with theaters, thrift stores, and inexpensive bars and restaurants. These fill up in the evening with local students and young professionals; during the day you might see them enjoying lunch and a stroll through Philosopher's Walk. You can't miss the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), and you shouldn't miss out on visiting. Dedicated to art, culture, and natural history, this is the largest museum in Canada and also one of the country's most striking buildings.
