El Raval

Hello El Raval

El Raval is a moody, rough-around-the-edges sort of place that revels in its own rugged charm. That the Gothic Quarter / La Ribera are only a stone's throw away means that many visitors to Barcelona don't spend much time here, however. This does a disservice to the city's most ethnically diverse neighborhood but does at least mean you can enjoy it away from the crowds. There's plenty to see in El Raval, too. The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) exhibits works by some of the world’s leading contemporary artists, and when you're finished there you can watch the skateboarders outside. Tuck into a plate of bacallà salat at the busy Mercat de la Boqueria at lunchtime, before recharging your batteries surrounded by orange trees in the Jardins de Rubió i Lluch.
