Hello Gothic Quarter / La Ribera
The Gothic Quarter is the most beguiling and architecturally-stunning area of Barcelona. Setting out with the intention of getting lost in the Gothic Quarter is actively encouraged, as only by aimlessly exploring the labyrinthine alleyways will you stumble across the hidden gems that could otherwise be easily overlooked. This is certainly the best way to discover the historic squares of the Gothic Quarter, each of which has its own story and identity. The scars inflicted by bombs dropped the Spanish Civil War are clearly visible on the walls of the Plaça Santa Felip Neri, and you can see human castles and Sardana dancing con the Plaça Sant Jaume if you time your visit well. Afterward, pick up anything from a tacky fridge magnet to a pair of new shoes from a stylish boutique on the sprawling La Rambla. Visit nearby Barceloneta for leisurely walks along the beach and wonderful, fresh seafood or the creative hub of El Born for boutique stores and intimate art galleries.
