Hello Back Bay

Take a stroll along Commonwealth Avenue between Kenmore Square and the resplendent Boston Public Garden, and you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in Paris, not Back Bay, Boston. This upscale residential street was built in the style of a Parisian boulevard, and the leafy, statue-dotted Commonwealth Mall that runs down the middle is a popular spot for Bostonians to enjoy a stroll of their own (particularly in winter, when the trees are draped with lights). The rest of Back Bay is just as sophisticated and pleasant (if not quite as exclusive as Commonwealth Avenue), complete with brownstone buildings, trendy restaurants, and chic shopping opportunities. Walk along Newbury Street to see all three of these at the same time, or pace yourself and swing by neighboring Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library and the futuristic John Hancock Tower.

There’s a lot going on in Back Bay and a lot to see, too, but the neighborhood also enjoys an enviable, Downtown-bordering location. You only need to wander through Boston Public Garden and Boston Common to find yourself in the heart of the city, or you can join the joggers and dog walkers by taking a walk along Charles River Esplanade. From here you can enjoy great views of Cambridge across the water, before dipping into Downtown via Beacon Hill.
