Hello Castle District
Prague's Castle District is unsurprisingly dominated by the sprawling majesty of Prague Castle, recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest ancient castle in the world. Located on the opposite side of Vltava to Old Town, and looking down on Lesser Town in front, the castle complex contains some of the city's best-known landmarks. The Old Royal Palace, St. Vitas Cathedral, the Basilica of St. George, and the Prague Castle Picture Gallery, with its excellent art collection, are all found here. So too is the much photographed Golden Lane, a postcard-perfect row of tiny, adorable houses. The combined effect of all these historic buildings is mightily impressive.
Stunning views out over the rest of Prague are also prominently on display, with the effect that alongside Old Town, the Castle District is one of the busiest areas of the city in terms of tourist numbers. However, while the castle may dominate, that's not to say it has the neighborhood completely to itself. Away from the castle but still in the castle district, you'll find the much less busy Schwarzenberg and Sternberg palaces, the Strahov Monastery, and Loreta Square. The other side of the river is only a short, meandering walk through Lesser Town and across the Charles Bridge, which makes the Castle District, fit for a king, a very special place to stay.
