Stories about Norway

Why using people will make you a better photographer
Few places in the world are home to such magnificent sights as Norway, where the environment takes on a sublime beauty.

These Ice Age remnants will take your breath away
In remoter parts of Norway it can feel as if you've stepped back in time. I'm standing on top of Preikestolen, a Norway cliff popularly known as Pulpit Rock because of its dominating position overlooking Lysefjorden. It has taken us two hours and 15 minutes to reach here on a strenuous three-kilometer hike, but it has been worth every aching muscle to see this view.

Why a photo and a view are never the same
“This is for me the most beautiful mountain road in Norway,” says my friend Anders. We’re driving to Geiranger through spectacular peaks, lakes and heathlands, where the only sign of other people is the old stone walls they have left and the road itself.

Of 'Viagra Falls' and naked charms
As I drive up the E-16 towards Flåm, I realize that in Norway, most of the time, the road is a destination in itself.

This is the million-dollar view you come to Bergen for
The Bryggen waterfront in Bergen, Norway is lined by a set of old wooden buildings that are now a tourist attraction. Set up as offices by the Hanseatic League in the late Middle Ages, they were once a center for international trade.

The largest glacier and a million-dollar view
Jostedalbreen is one of the oldest national parks in Norway and home to the largest glacier in continental Europe, about 60 kilometers in length and with a surface area of 437 square kilometers.

Pretty towns powered by oil and fish
Stavanger, Norway has always based its wealth on what the Book of Genesis says “the waters brought forth abundantly”, but the early settlers could never have imagined that would have included offshore oil.

Daydreaming away in "Switzerland, with fjords"
In Norway, I embark on a ferry to Hellesylt through the world-renowned Geirangerfjord.

Nature at its finest
Hello Norway, whose coastline is broken by fjords – ancient glacial valleys where the sea penetrates deep into the heart of a land filled with mountains, forests and waterfalls. Whether by boat, train or car, a tour of this beautiful fjordland is a chance to visit scenic towns and villages, and see nature at its finest.
