West End / Theatre District

Hello West End / Theatre District

Like much of the rest of London, the West End has rebuilt or rebranded itself on more than one occasion. This is especially true of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. First built in the 1660s, the theater was rebuilt on the exact same spot on no fewer than three occasions. The fourth incarnation – opened in 1812 – is still very much alive, kicking, and well worth looking up if you’re a fan of American musical theater. The Theatre Royal is just one of the thirty-plus theaters in the West End, but there’s a whole lot more to the area than treading boards. There’s shopping on Oxford Street, more shopping on Carnaby Lane and even more shopping around Seven Dials and Covent Garden – in fact, if shopping is your thing then you’ve landed in exactly the right place. To keep your energy levels up, or for a pre- or post-theater dinner that doesn’t inflict too much damage on your purse strings, visit Chinatown and sit yourself down and get back up again at an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet.
