Hello Notting Hill / Bayswater
There's more to Notting Hill than Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, and the wildly successful film of the same name. This fashionable neighborhood is a London icon in its own right, loved by Londoners for its low-key restaurants, a lively farmer's market, and independent stores selling records, books, and specialty food. The colorful buildings and narrow backstreets only add to its eclectic vibe, which the equally colorful Notting Hill Carnival take over each August. The Museum of Brands, Packaging, and Advertising – itself full of color – is an inviting alternative to other, busier museums. To pick up a collectible all of your very own, pop around the corner to Portobello Road Market. Saturday morning is an especially good if crowded time to visit, when any number of antique dealers display their wares for sale. Kensington, Bayswater and Shephard's Bush are only a stone's throw away, too.
