It's a warm day in LA, like always, and you're craving food. The sun has worn you out and after hitting muscle beach (or not) you have to get your energy levels up again.

Los Angeles, the second most populous city in the US, offers a lot of different kinds of food. As the city is a melting pot of different cultures there's a lot to choose from. What about some delicious Mexican food or rather some Italian tonight?

To simplify the process of choosing the perfect restaurant in LA, we asked our local expert Latifah Al-Hazza to share her top five restaurants with us - and you. Well here it is!

Blue Plate Taco

This restaurant not only has amazing sangria and margaritas: it’s also an incredibly trendy spot in Santa Monica. The vibrant colors, ocean views and overall ambiance make this spot a top LA restaurant.

The shrimp, fish and veggie tacos are among the best in the area!

Perch LA

A perfect date night spot and great for a girls' night out as well. The restaurant is located on the 15th floor of a building in downtown LA and offers a romantic, outdoor setting (they have indoor as well) with views of Downtown's lights.

The scallops and bread pudding are phenomenal. After dinner, head upstairs to the 16th floor to enjoy an outdoor bar and (depending on the day) some live music.

Milo & Olive

Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Los Angeles, located in the Mid-City. There's nothing special about the restaurant itself but the food is incredibly mouthwatering.

Opt for the 4-cheese and farm egg pizza (add burrata) and the handmade potato gnocchi

Bondi Harvest

A very low-key yet amazing breakfast and brunch spot. The Aussie-inspired cafe is located in Santa Monica basically in an alley with communal picnic tables. The setting is very casual and relaxed.

You can't go wrong with whatever you choose on the menu, but their best dishes are their sweet squash pancakes and sweet halloumi toast.

Moonshadows

Located literally on the water in Malibu, this upscale restaurant has amazing seafood dishes with stunning ocean views.

Connected to the restaurant is a hip outdoor lounge for after-dinner drinks.
