Derived from the tradition of a final celebration before the beginning of Lent, the Carnaval De Ponce is a week-long festival of colorful parades and music events. Highlights include the appearance of folkloric characters known as Vejigantes, whose papier-mache masks are adorned with horns to represent the devil.
